The Association of BC Marine Industries' Supplier Development Day on November 29 provided important information and key networking opportunities for the marine industry. Following a welcome from Mark Collins, President, ABCMI, and President and CEO, BC Ferries, guests heard from the Honourable Bruce Ralston, BC Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology who stressed the importance of the marine industry and the current government's commitment to supporting it. Ian Brennan, Vice President, New Construction, Supply Chain Management and Contracts, Vancouver Shipyards; and Karen Clarke, Manager, Procurement for Victoria Shipyards outlined the major projects for both yards. A panel with the key executive for BC Ferries -- Jamie Marshall, Jeff Joyce, Erwin Matinez, Frank Camaraire and Mark Collins -- outlined upcoming expenditures. Additional speakers included Derek Buxton, Canadian Coast Guards' Project Manager for the Polar Icebreaker project; Jamie Turcotte (Thales Canada), Michel Thibault (CCG) and Dennis Plonka (SNC-Lavelin) provided an overview of the needs of the National Shipbuilding Strategy.
