Photographer Lonnie Wishart snapped some amazing photos of the delivery of three new gantry cranes to Prince Rupert's Fairview Container Terminal on Saturday, May 13. The deliver of the cranes takes the terminal one more step closer to the completion of their major expansion project. The cranes, brought in by the heavy load carrier ship Zhen Hua 25, were escorted by SAAM SMIT Towage tugs with a team of BC Coast Marine Pilots onboard to assist in guiding the vessel to its berth. The three Malacca-max dock gantry cranes further enhance Prince Rupert's reputation as "big ship ready." Each crane is equipped with a horizontal reach of 25 containers and is capable of working the largest vessels in the world.
When the expansion project is complete, the capacity of Fairview Terminal will increase by half-a-million TEUs, boosting its total capacity from 850,000 to 1.35 million TEUs. All photos are copyrighted to Lonnie Wishart and require permission for reprint (www.lonniewishart.com).
